Windows Operating System:-
Windows operating system is developed by Microsoft corporation to run computers.
Microsoft windows is also called Windows OS. It features the graphical user interface(GUI) based operating system.
Microsoft windows stands for "Microsoft-Wide Interactive Network Development for Office work solution". Microsoft windows is a series of graphical interface operating system developed, marketed and sold by Microsoft Corporation. A user can easily interact with the windows operating system or applications by selecting the relevant options, through mouse or by entering the characters through keyboard.
The first version of windows operating system released in 1985 is simply a GUI based OS.
Existing Microsoft Disk Operating System(MS-DOS) is a command based language is also developed by Microsoft.On November 20,1985 Microsoft introduced an operating system named Windows and it is a graphical user interface based OS. Each version of windows includes a GUI with desktop allows users to view folder and the files in windows. Now windows is most widely used operating system for the computers.

Microsoft Windows is designed for both home and professional purposes.
The first version of windows called Windows NT 3.1 was released in year 1995.This was followed by windows 3.5 and 4.0 and windows 2000.
Later Microsoft released windows XP in 2001.the company created different editions of operating system for personal purposes.
Windows is designed to run on standard x86 hardware such as Intel processors.
Therefore it can be installed on various brands like HP, Dell, Sony computers as well as home built Pc.
In windows 7 it also includes several touchscreen functionalities that allows the operating system to run on certain tablets and touchscreen computers, Windows powered mobile phone etc.
What Is Windows?
Windows is a graphical user interface based operating system that is developed by Microsoft. It allows users to view and store files and run the software, playing games, watching videos and provides a medium to connect to the internet.
It was released for both the professional works and home computing.
Microsoft introduced the first version of windows is 1.0
The latest operating system that we use in daily life is Windows 10 that is released by Microsoft corporation in year 2015. In 1993 ,the first business-oriented version of Windows was released, which is called Windows NT 3.1,then Microsoft introduces the next version of Windows 3.5,4.0 ,Windows 2000 and the Windows XP in the year 2001.
It was designed based on the standard x86 hardware. It can run on different brands of hardware.
Editions of Microsoft Windows Operating System:-
Microsoft has produced various editions of Windows starting with Windows XP.

There are two common editions of Windows is following:-
1.Windows Home
2.Windows Professional
1.Windows Home:-
It is the basic edition of Windows. In Windows Home it offers all the fundamental functions of Windows such as surfing the internet, browsing, playing audio and video, streaming movie shows and playing games.
Windows Home is less expensive and comes in-built installed with many of the computers.
2.Windows Professional:-
It is also called Windows Pro or Win Professional in short form. It is an enhanced version of Microsoft Windows which is useful for users and medium size business.
It contains all features like Windows Home and also it has some extra features is following:-
a. Remote Desktop
b. Trusted Boot
c. BitLocker
Version Of MS-Windows:-
Some important versions of MS-Windows are as following:-
1. Windows NT(New Technology) :-
A new version of Windows introduced in July 1993 and made specially for businesses. Windows NT offers better control over workstation capabilities to help the network administrators.
Features of Windows NT :-
- It has a 32-bit Windows application.
- It is able to run on MS- DOS, Windows 3 and Win 32 applications.
- Windows NT is based on High Level Language.
- It provides higher stability and security.
- It was introduced in July 1993.
2. Windows 95 :-
It is a Graphical User Interface(GUI) based operating system developed by Microsoft . Windows 95 was released on 24th August 1995 by Microsoft.
Features of Windows 95 :-
- It is a consumer oriented Windows operating system.
- It is a mixture of 16-bit plus 32-bit Windows operating system.
- Windows 95 supports FAT32 file system, multi-display, Web TV and the Internet Explorer.
3. Windows 98 :-
Windows 98 was developed in the year 1998. This was introduced in two main versions of Windows. The first Windows 98 version was with programming errors but the windows 98 second edition came out later was much better with many errors resolved.
Features of Windows 98 :-
- It was the first Windows operating system that uses the Windows Driver Model(WDM).
- Windows 98 supports Internet Explorer version 4.0.1.
- It includes FAT32 converter utility for converting FAT16 drives to FAT32 without formatting the Hard Disk partition.
- It comes with the support of many peripheral devices like USB, DVD etc.
4. Windows XP :-
Windows XP is an operating system developed by Microsoft. It is used on personal computers. Microsoft released Windows XP on 25th October 2001.
Windows XP includes two versions of windows operating system are as follows :-
A. Windows XP Home edition :- This operating system is made for Home users.
B. Windows XP Professional :- This operating system is made for Business users.
Features of Windows XP :-
- Window XP provides 1.5GB of available space on the Hard disk.
- It has various users with independent profiles.
- Atleast 64MB of RAM internal storage.
- Window XP includes the video adapter and monitor with super VGA(Video Graphics Array) or your Higher resolution.
5. Windows Vista :-
Windows vista is an operating system developed by Microsoft for use on Personal Computers(PC) including home and business desktops, tablets, laptops, and media center PCs. Window vista was released on 30th January 2007.
Features of Windows vista :-
- It enhances the features of visual style in your windows operating system.
- Windows vista can be installed on Pentium 4, higher 512MB RAM.
6. Windows 7 :-
Windows 7 was released on 22nd October 2009. Basically it is an upgraded version of Windows XP and Windows vista. It does not includes applications like Windows mail, Windows movie maker etc.
Features of Windows 7:-
- Windows 7 supports 64-bit processor.
- It supports playback of multi-media in mp4 format.
- Window 7 provides multiple firewall in an operating system.
7. Windows 8 :-
Windows 8 is a personal computer based operating system. It was released on 26th October 2012.
Features of Windows 8 :-
- It is based on Microsoft new Metro design language.
- Windows 8 is a 64-bit CPU.
- It supports new technology such as USB 3.0 and cloud computing etc.
8. Windows 10 :-
It is a personal computer operating system. It was developed by Microsoft. Windows 10 was launched worldwide on 29th July 2015.
Features of Windows 10 :-
- Windows 10 includes easy to use social media sites like Facebook, Twitter etc.
- Windows 10 interface adapt based on the hardware running on.
